Frequently asked questions
Are my videos uploaded anywhere?
No. Recordings are captured with your browser's MediaRecorder, and video files you open are decoded by the browser's own video player and processed on a canvas or with Web Audio. Everything stays on your device, which also means there are no upload limits or waiting for a server queue.
Which video formats can I open?
Any format your browser can play. MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio works everywhere, and WebM works in Chrome, Edge and Firefox. MOV files from iPhones usually open, and MKV works when its codecs are supported. Files using HEVC, AC-3 or DTS may not decode in some browsers.
Do these video tools work on a phone?
Most of them do. The webcam recorder, GIF maker, frame grabber, audio extractor, trimmer and video info tool all run in mobile browsers. The screen recorder needs a desktop browser, because phones and tablets don't let websites capture the screen; use your phone's built-in recorder instead.
What format are recordings and trimmed clips saved in?
WebM or MP4, depending on what your browser can record. Chrome, Edge and Firefox offer WebM, and recent Chrome and Safari versions can also record MP4. The format menu only lists the options your browser actually supports, so the file you get will play back.
