What you can do with Edit PDF Metadata

- Clear all in one click
- Blank every field at once to strip names and software details before sending a document outside your organization.
- Document properties
- See the page count, file size and first page size in millimeters, with a paper name like A4 or Letter when it matches.

What PDF metadata is and why to edit it
PDF metadata is the descriptive information stored inside the file: title, author, subject, keywords, the application that created the document (Creator) and the software that produced the PDF (Producer). It appears in a reader's Document Properties dialog, and the title is often what search engines and document management systems display. A file exported from Word, for example, may carry the author's full name and a title left over from a template, which is worth fixing before you publish or email the PDF.
For SEO, a clear title and subject help a PDF look right in search results and browser tabs. For privacy, clearing the author and creator fields removes the most common personal details. Note that some applications also store a second copy of metadata in an XMP stream; this tool updates the standard document information, so a few viewers that prefer XMP may still show older values. Page content and annotations are not changed.
Frequently asked questions
Is it private to edit PDF metadata here?
Yes. The PDF is opened and rewritten in your browser, and the updated file is saved to your device. Nothing is uploaded, so you can safely clean up metadata on confidential documents before sharing them.
How do I change the title of a PDF?
Load the PDF, type the new title in the Title field and click Save PDF. The title is what readers show in Document Properties and, with this tool, in the viewer's window bar. It is separate from the file name, which you can rename on your device.
How do I remove the author name from a PDF?
Delete the text in the Author field, or click Clear all fields to blank everything, then save. Also check the Creator field, which can include a username or company app name.
Why does my PDF reader still show the old title?
Some files keep a second copy of metadata in an XMP stream, and certain viewers read that first. This tool updates the standard document info dictionary. Also make sure you opened the newly downloaded file, not the original.
Does editing metadata change the PDF's content?
No. Pages, text, images and annotations stay exactly the same. Only the document information fields and the modification date are updated, so the file looks identical and its size barely changes.
